The Lumeum is located in the former swimming pool of the historic guesthouse Kloster Bethanien in St. Niklausen, in the canton of Obwalden, above Kerns at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level.

Nestled in a peaceful setting with views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Sarnen — a place that radiates both inspiration and tranquillity.

The lives of Dorothee Wyss and Niklaus von Flüe are at the heart of this moving 360° immersive experience. Together, they left their mark on a period of change in the 15th century, and their decisions and Christian faith continue to have an impact today. Dorothee's strength and attitude were decisive for Niklaus' path. Without her, his work as a hermit and peacemaker would have been inconceivable. Their life touches on central questions of faith, responsibility and conscious renunciation for the common good and peace. These themes are more relevant than ever.

Lumeum, a 360-degree experience to meet Niklaus and Dorothee

Lumeum. In the former indoor swimming pool of the Bethanien monastery, visitors are immersed in the life of Swiss peacemaker Niklaus von Flüe and his wife Dorothee Wyss in the 15th century.

The immersive show ‘Niklaus and Dorothee Alive’ combines paintings by Olivier Desvaux with digital art by Abeille Brissaud under the direction of Silvère Lang.

This show complements the visit of the Bruder Klaus memorial sites – the museum and tomb in Sachseln and the place of activity in Flüeli-Ranft. Special attention is paid to his wife Dorothee, who supported him on this extraordinary journey through life.

‘Niklaus and Dorothee Alive’ continues this path of peace into the present day and honours a selection of peacemakers of the 20th and 21st century from all continents.
